This may seem too good to be true, but recent studies have found that there may be a health benefit to eating dark chocolate. Findings from multiple studies have found that dark chocolate with at least 70% cacao has a positive effect on stress levels, inflammation, mood, and the immune system.
The dark chocolate study stands out among others because it doesn’t take sugar content into account. The researchers believed that it wasn’t just the sugar that makes people happy, but that there was an ingredient in the cacao (the flavonoids) that were acting as antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents, helping to boost heart and brain health.
The study found that eating 48 grams of dark chocolate with at least 70% cacao has an effect on the brain, enhancing neuroplasticity. However, this study doesn’t mean everyone is free to eat as much chocolate as possible, but dark chocolate in moderation may have an overall positive benefit that requires more study.
