Hormonal Imbalance & Menstruation

Hormones are chemical messengers that control most of the major functions in the body.

They fluctuate naturally, such as during puberty and menopause, but when hormone levels rise or decrease abnormally, that sets the stage for health problems to arise.

At the Magaziner Center, we do a thorough analysis of dozens of hormone metabolites and treat the problem using natural remedies, often in conjunction with bio-identical hormone replacement therapy.

Small changes can cause big problems

Since hormones control so many processes in the body, including your heart rate, metabolism, mood, even your body temperature, getting proper treatment if you’re suffering from an imbalance is vital to maintaining good health.

For women during menopause who are suffering from ongoing symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, hair loss and insomnia, we have found that treatment with bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) can have phenomenal results. And unlike “traditional” prescription hormones, which are mass manufactured and come with numerous serious side effects, bio-identical hormones have a chemical structure identical to what the human body naturally produces.

What causes a hormone imbalance?

Causes can include exposure to environmental toxins, especially endocrine disrupting chemicals such as pesticides and herbicides; poor eating habits, extreme stress, an under or overactive thyroid, certain prescription medications, menopause, aging and conditions such as Addison’s disease.

What are the symptoms?

Both men and women can be affected by weight gain, fatigue, sensitivity to hot or cold weather, skin problems, increased thirst and muscle aches and stiffness. In addition: women who are experiencing menopausal syndrome can suffer:

  • Mood swings
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Night sweats
  • Hot flashes

Men who suffer from low testosterone may have symptoms such as:

  • Low libido
  • Depression
  • Decrease in energy levels

How they treat it

Traditionally, hormone imbalances are treated with synthetic hormone replacement therapy, often prescribed with other drugs for accompanying problems such as insomnia. Synthetic hormones are a form of estrogen and progesterone. These compounds, however, are types that are not found naturally in the human body and can be broken down into potentially harmful metabolites. If you read the package inserts for these drugs, you’ll see that they come with plenty of warnings about the associated risk of heart attacks, stroke, blood clots and breast cancer.

How we treat it

At the Magaziner Center for Wellness, we do a complete analysis of dozens of hormones and metabolites, using blood and urine testing. If we find an imbalance, it can be corrected with natural remedies and/or bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, which has the same chemical structure as the human body produces, not an altered or adulterated form. Our treatments are gentle, natural and completely harmonized to the individual patient.
