At the Magaziner Center we use bio-identical hormone replacement therapy BHRT, to improve the lives of women and men with remarkable results.
Many of the body’s naturally occurring hormones decline with age. For some women, as they reach menopause, the effects of these hormonal shifts can be devastating. BHRT is completely personalized, as opposed to conventional synthetic hormone-replacement therapy, which is a one-size-fits-all approach that doesn’t take into account the unique needs of each individual.
What is Bio-identical hormone-replacement therapy?
Bio-identical hormones are derived from plant sources and compounded precisely for each patient. These hormones have the same chemical structure as what the human body produces; not an altered or adulterated form as you’ll find in synthetic hormones. We place great emphasis on restoring your hormones back to levels associated with peak performance as gently and naturally as possible.
When used to help ease the symptoms of menopause, BHRT can alleviate hot flashes, night sweats, depression and sleep disturbances, while improving libido and skin texture as well as a sense of well-being. Menopause, however, isn’t the only reason for hormonal problems, exposure to environmental toxins, especially endocrine-disrupting chemicals such as pesticides and herbicides; poor eating habits; extreme stress; an under-active or overactive thyroid; certain prescription medications; aging, and conditions such as Addison’s disease can also throw hormones out of balance.
How is BHRT prescribed?
We use a thorough series of tests and a comprehensive evaluation to understand your unique symptoms and pinpoint the specific needs of each patient. We then have the hormones custom compounded for you based on those findings. The hormones are administered as capsules, topical creams or gels, oral troches or suppositories.
What is the difference between conventional hormone therapy and BHRT?
Synthetic hormones are a form of estrogen and progesterone. These compounds, however, are types that are not found naturally in the human body and can be broken down into potentially harmful metabolites. If you read the package inserts for these typically prescribed drugs, you’ll see that they come with plenty of warnings about the associated risk of heart attacks, stroke, blood clots and breast cancer. BHRT removes these risks and provides a natural and safe alternative.
What are the symptoms of a hormonal imbalance?
Both men and women can be affected by weight gain, fatigue, sensitivity to hot or cold weather, skin problems, increased thirst and muscle aches and stiffness. In addition, women who are experiencing menopausal syndrome can suffer:
- Mood swings
- Irregular heartbeat
- Night sweats
- Hot flashes
Men who suffer from low testosterone may have symptoms such as:
- Low libido
